Description

Brad Ewankiw, product line manager, feed, and Laura Metcalf, key account manager, animal nutrition, both with Enterra, explain how North American production of black soldier fly larvae (BSFL) continues to grow, providing an alternate sustainable and hypoallergenic source of protein and fat for the pet food industry. As consumers increase awareness of and demand for more sustainably produced ingredients including insects — and regulatory approval progresses — pet food manufacturers need to understand how incorporating BSFL ingredients into their portfolio can help create a competitive advantage. In this presentation, Ewankiw and Metcalf will provide an overview of the most recent technical data including palatability and digestibility from a very recently completed adult maintenance feeding trial in dogs. Attendees will learn about the latest evidence proving these ingredients are high value with good acceptance and excellent target animal safety based on a balanced amino acid and fatty acid profile.
