Dogs rewarded excessive treats are prone to develop obesity. Lonza Capsules and Health Ingredients assessed the effects of Carniking® L-carnitine when labrador retrievers are fed 110% and 120% over maintenance energy requirements (MER). Dogs were randomized to control, 236 mg/d or 492 mg/d L-carnitine at 110% or 120% MER. The study showed, L-carnitine led to a reduction in feed consumption and body weight, and an increase in lean/fat ratio and basic metabolic rate. Carniking® L-carnitine inclusion in treats can prevent weight gain by increasing satiety.
